Who is On Late Night Tonight in Comedy: Week of July 19, 2021

Who’s on Late Night Tonight in Comedy?

This week, ABC gets Kimmel-ish, Seth gets his Super Fan back and Colbert gets a first-time Emmy nominee.

The dog days of summer are definitely here. And unlike Jimmy Kimmel, most of the country isn’t getting an entire month off to lounge around the pool. Jimmy Kimmel Live is still on the air, the host just isn’t…well, hosting it.

Jimmy Kimmel’s fill-in is going to need a vacation himself after this week. Anthony Anderson from the hit ABC sitcom “Black-ish” created by Kenya Barris is filling in twice for Jimmy Kimmel this week. Anthony Anderson will be hosting the 11:30pm et version of Jimmy Kimmel Live. And Double-A will also be the host of Jimmy Kimmel’s side hustle this week.

Anthony Anderson is also hosting “Jimmy Kimmel Live: NBA Finals Game Night.” This is the half-hour edition of JKL that airs in prime time at 8pm et before each of the NBA Finals games. And with the Milwaukee Bucks and the Phoenix Suns both doing their best to lose the championship, it looks like this Finals series is going 7 games.

Jimmy Kimmel Live: NBA Finals Game Night” will definitely be scheduled for this Tuesday, before Game 6 of the NBA Finals. Anthony Anderson’s special guest on Tuesday at 8pm et will be the always hilarious, yet seldom seen, Chris Tucker. After great performances in “Friday” and the “Rush Hour” films, we haven’t seen too much of Chris Tucker. But when he does show up in late night, it’s usually on Jimmy Kimmel Live and Anthony Anderson will have him as his guest in prime time on Tuesday. Also, you can always catch Chris Tucker’s comedy special “Chris Tucker Live” from 2015 which is available on Netflix.

If there is an NBA Finals Game 7, Anthony Anderson will also host that episode of “Jimmy Kimmel Live: NBA Finals Game Night” on Thursday at 8pm on ABC. Let’s just say, it feels like it will go 7.

Moving on to our other highlights this week, on Tuesday, Seth Meyers welcomes Tim Robinson back to Late Night. Tim has had a stellar career as a comedian, but we usually don’t see him as himself on Late Night. And don’t expect to on Tuesday either.

Tim Robinson has had two very popular roles on Late Night with Seth Meyers. He’s played “Dale, Seth Meyers’ emergency sidekick” and he’s played “Timmy, the Late Night Super-Fan.” Both parts are hilarious, so no matter who Tim shows up as on Late Night this Tuesday, expect to laugh.

Also on Tuesday, Seth Meyers’ guest will be one of the best comedy writers of this generation, Simon Rich. He was a long time writer for “Saturday Night Live” and he’s written for “The Simpsons” and he wrote and created the FXX series “Man Seeking Woman.” Now, he’s writing the anthology series that he created for TBS, “Miracle Workers“. The series stars Daniel Radcliffe and Steve Buscemi. Episodes are available on TBS.

Thursday, head to the Late Show with Stephen Colbert for some late night laughs. Colbert’s guests will include Alex Falcone who made his late night national television debut on the Late Show. Alex, who can be seen in episodes of “Portlandia” and hosts the “Read It and Weep” podcast, is back for a return engagement on the Late Show on Thursday.

Colbert’s other guest on Thursday is Hannah Einbinder who has been nominated for her first Prime Time Emmy Award in the category for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series. The series she was nominated for is “Hacks” on HBO Max.

On “Hacks“, Hannah plays a young comedy writer who is dealing with some cancel culture and is now working for a veteran comedienne (played by Jean Smart) who is on the downside of her career and is working in Las Vegas. “Hacks” has been nominated for 15 Emmy Awards including Outstanding Comedy Series and Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for Jean Smart. Watch “Hacks” anytime on HBO Max and watch Hannah Einbinder on Thursday on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

If you love gymnastics, synchronized swimming and athletes not hooking up, your going to love watching what’s in Saturday Night Live‘s regular time slot. Saturday Night Live will not be seen (live, rerun, or in any other form) due to NBC’s live coverage of the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, Japan. This year, it will be just as interesting watching the host country try to keep the athletes from hooking up due to Covid restrictions.

They’ve made it so hard for the athletes to have sex at this Olympics, it really should be its own event.
