Fans speculate Catherine Tate is returning to Doctor Who after comedy star spotted near Liverpool set

Doctor Who fans were sent into a frenzy last night as the latest series resumed filming in Liverpool, but it was the sighting of an old cast member that drew the most attention.

Jodie Whittaker’s third series in the role is currently being produced in the city and local comic legend John Bishop, 54, was recently added to the cast as her new companion.

However, some fans have speculated that Catherine Tate could also be set to return, after she was spotted in the city with John yesterday (March 22).

The comedy legend, 51, is perhaps most famous for her award winning sketch show The Catherine Tate Show but was also a major part of the sci-fi show’s success at the peak of its popularity.

The Bloomsbury born comedy star played the role of Donna Noble on the hit show from 2006 to 2010.

After her Doctor, David Tennant, left the show in 2010, Catherine moved on to other projects, including performing in the West End.

But some fans now believe she may be returning to the TARDIS after an 11 year break.

After a flurry of tweets began circulating suggesting the star was returning, Who fans began to gather to speculate on what it all meant.

Another user confirmed the news, writing: “So I met Catherine Tate and John Bishop today in Liverpool, been a good day.”

Another said: “Whether or not the Catherine Tate rumours are true, today has been such a fun and exciting day!

“I’ve not really experienced anything like it on Twitter.”
